Team Profiles
Knights of Miami
The Knights of Miami Sports Association started out
as a dream in the mind of Jesse Wiggins. Who would have thought
that twelve years later it would be the organization it is today
and still expanding?
The Knights are a part of an association of minor
leaque football teams playing throughout the state of Florida, they
have been League Champions for four consecutive years and eight-time
Division Champions. In June, 1997, Coach Jesse was inducted into
the Minor League Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, for his coaching,
dedication and commitment to minor league football.
From the beginning, the Knights made an impact on the community
and the young adults who participated in its program. Through the
program they get a second chance at a college education and/or employment
if applicable, they can continue to compete athletically, and they
have something positive to do. Our program provides the young men
in this community the opportunity to grow. To date, we have had
over forty (40) members return to school many of whom have returned
are now teaching and coaching at the high school level in the Miami
Dade School System.
Not all of our members are interested in continuing
their education, some have already completed college, some are employed,
but they all miss the competition, friendship and cohesiveness that
team sports brings. They all have a sense of family and start looking
out for each other. What a good feeling to know that you played
a small part. With a program such as ours, your life is no longer
your own, you are always on call. You are family. We share in all
the accomplishments and disappointments, all the joys and pains
of each other.
